Arunava Sinha reading excerpts from The Book of Dhaka at its launch

Jug mug thela, Saket kick-started the Navratri festivities with the launch of The Book of Dhaka: City in Short Fiction, one of the ‘city in short fiction' series following The Book of Tokyo, The Book of Gaza and The Book of Khartoum.
Arunava Sinha, a noted translator of Bengali literature, talked about the differences between Dhaka and Kolkata, why the Bengali literature is loved more than fiction in English and how Dhaka's history is deeply influenced by the 1971 war. He said that their main objective of coming up with such a book was to bring in a sense of history pre- 1971, along with focussing on the country's geographical and cultural elements. The collection of stories is meant for a global audience. Dhaka's history has been preserved by its relatively small number of population to be told to the world. The writers also wanted the physical problem of Dhaka to be symbolised in this collection of stories.
