Bill to make Gita study compulsory
In a bid to educate kids on Hindu tradition in terms
of both literature and philosophy, a bill to provide
compulsory teaching of Bhagavad Gita, a 700-verse
Hindu scripture in Sanskrit that is part of the Hindu
epic Mahabharata, has been placed in Lok Sabha. The
bill was introduced as a private member bill by BJP
member Ramesh Bidhuri.
Gita recitation is gain popularity even among non- Hindu communities. Six-year-old Firdaus, a Class 1 student, says she believes in the maxim ‘live and let live’, and that human beings are members of an extended family. This six-year-old from the Muslim community of Kendrapara district in Odisha has taken everyone by surprise by topping a Bhagvad Gita recitation contest in March.BLD
