While the dust around Chetan Bhagat’s Five Point Someone being included in Delhi University’s Credit Based Choice System (CBCS) is yet to settle, the author has now been slapped with a plagiarism lawsuit by a Bengaluru-based author. Anvita Bajpai, in her Facebook post, said that she had filed a lawsuit claiming that Bhagat’s One Indian Girl is an intelligent copy of her story, Drawing Parallels, from the book Life, Odds & End
Speaking to Bangalore Times, Bajpai said, ‘When Chetan’s book One Indian Girl was published, I read a lot of reviews about it and that is when I had a doubt. So I went back to my story (Drawing Parallels) and read One Indian Girl just to be doubly sure. I realised that the theme and the sequences are similar.’ Bajpai approached a civil court and submitted all relevant documents, following which the court granted temporary injunction till the next hearing, thereby, restraining the publisher and Bhagat from selling his book. When informed that Bhagat had refuted her claims, Bajpai said, ‘Let him prove his point in the court, just as I have.
